There was posted on the Broadcast Newsroom that the production company for MTVs Real World Road Rules, Bunim-Murray, may be acquired by IMG,which is an entertainment and media agency.
Bunim-Murray and IMG both have declined to comment on this as to its validity.
Bunim Murray Productions is the company that exclusively casts for the Real World and Road Rules (NOT MTV) and produces the shows in coordination with MTV.
The company started in the early 1990′s and first produced the Real World in 1992. Bunim-Murray also produced The Simple Life with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, Making the Band with Sean P Diddy Combs, The Bad Girls Club, and the recently announced comedy competition series, Laugh Off.
It is reported since the death of the coproducer, Mary Ellis Bunim, whom the upcoming Road Rules season is dedicated to, that Bunim Murray has increased its programming to up the company’s value for a merger or outright sell off. This may explain Road Rules reemergence as well new series’s The Bad Girls Club and Laugh Off all coming out recently.
What this means for the Real World and Road Rules continuing is unknown as the current contract ends at Real World season 20 which would be one season after the upcoming Real World Sydney.
