Kevin Powell from the first MTV Real World season in New York is running for Congress in 2008.

Kevin is running as a Democrat in the 10th Congressional District in Brooklyn, New York for a seat in the United States Congress.

His policies seem to be very left leaning including an immediate end to the war in Iraq regardless of consequences, more art & music programs in school, advocating for universal health care, pro-choice, and amnesty for illegal aliens.

Since the Real World Kevin has written 7 books, lectured, and been a community activist.

He is quoted as saying,

“My life-calling is to be a servant for the people, period. Money, fame, status, personal achievements, and all that means very little to me when pain and suffering are still real on this planet. I am interested in the powerless becoming powerful.”

Sean Duffy from the Real World Boston considered a run for congress in 2004  after serving as the district attorney of Ashland County in Wisconsin in 2001 & 2003.  He then went back to the district attorney position in 2005 upon withdrawing his application to run for congress.

More information on Kevin Powell’s campaign can be seen on his site.
