Real World Pivotal To the Death of MTV According to SuperNews!

by Michael Martin on March 25, 2009

SuperNews! on Current TV had an entertaining take on the downfall of MTV as they trace it to the meeting Jon Murray had pitching The Real World.

The MTV Down skit was part of the March season premiere of SuperNews!

It starts out showing a 70s style storytelling of music’s survival then morphs into a current MTV LA marketers meeting as they look to further exploit “drunk-tardism” to the delight of the advertisers.

It was funny how it shows the desire of the execs for cheap, low maintenance productions with even cheaper and younger stars, thus the natural (de)evolution to a show called, Malibabies.

This upsets the current MTV stars from The Hills as they bitch and moan while MTV is in its sickbed.

Then it flashes back to a young MTV in the 80s declaring to not want any gimmicks or “corporate crap” but just music videos and the ability to connect with & educate the youth.

Over time we enter the early nineties as MTV meets with Jonathan Murray of Bunim-Murray Productions pitching The Real World.

Jon declares its the train wreck you can’t look away from and with no flash in the pan musicians to get sick of, you can simply rerun it, rerun it, rerun it…as here we are with the casting for the 24th season of The Real World!
