Reality TV Fans Accept More Unknown Friends on Social Networks

social networks

University of Buffalo and Hawaii researchers claim that fans of reality TV are more likely than others to accept friends they don’t know on social media sites such as Facebook and Myspace.

This was reported on WebProNews as people watch reality TV shows, such as The Real World, where cast members get more TV time when they create drama and controversy – thus people emulate this on the social networks by building a large friend network of mostly unknown people and then sharing pictures and videos of themselves for attention.

This behavior is more often associated with women, especially by sharing images of themselves with others.

Do you feel this is accurate of fans of The Real World?

I personally feel this is very accurate of the Real World cast members themselves on the social media networks, specifically Myspace.
