Road Rules returns to MTV in January 2007

Road Rules will return to MTV in January 2007 as it has been officially announced HERE.
MTV announced that this will be the first reality show on MTV where viewers choose who gets eliminated each week via an online vote by who they liked most and the least. This means the following week’s episode will be determined by a real-time vote of the previous week thus filming can not be done entirely before the season starts but week to week.
“Normally these shows are taped months in advance, with it taking days to edit each episode,” said Jonathan Murray, the co-creator and executive producer of the show since its creation in 1995. “But MTV is the only network that would do something like this — to truly walk a high wire without a net.”
After the new broadcast episode airs, viewers will vote for one of two cast members — deemed the “weakest” by the rest of the cast — to enter an elimination face-off to air on MTV Overdrive. At the same time, viewers will determine the nominee’s challenger from an Internet replacement board of potential male and female challengers, which lives on MTV.com, along with video packages, personal blogs and statistics and background on each potential replacement.
Road Rules started in 1995 and was ended in 2004, but with the 2007 return it will consist of the most infamous former cast members and the location most likely being in Asia.

Yes thats the format Jon Murray of Bunim-Murray had to pitch to get Road Rules back on MTV. It will be former Real World Road Rules cast members, but with the weekly vote offs, they could be replaced with new “fresh meat” cast.

now, the people participating are the only old cast members that are gonna be involved, right? the possible replacements are fresh meat/new road rules people, only, right???

I know the starting cast of the next Road Rules will be former cast members, but the replacement cast members after vote offs could very well be New “Fresh Meat” cast members…which should be casting soon…I will post the new casting schedule here on the blog once its available.

I think their idea is stupid, there’s already The Real World/Road Rules Challenges with former cast members of both seasons, some of which have been doing it for years. I think they should bring in a whole bunch of new people.
